Do you know how to make a Jacuzzi in your bathtub? Jacuzzi is one of the most popular brands in the world. The company is so popular for its hot tubs that many people across the globe simply use the brand name in place of the thing itself.
But, what if you want to turn your bathtub into a Jacuzzi, or a hot tub? If you have a tub that’s made of fiberglass or acrylic, you can just do a few things to turn it into a relaxing spa.
From covering the overflow assembly to adding in a few whirlpool jets, there are quite a few things that can be done to turn your spa into a Jacuzzi.
The best thing about this is that it doesn’t require a whole lot of money. You don’t have to spend over the top to turn your normal bathtub into a Jacuzzi.
Are you interested in this? First of all, you have to understand that the Jacuzzi and the hot tub are both essentially the same. The Jacuzzi is just a brand name, just like many people associate Windows with operating systems.
How To Make A Jacuzzi In Your Bathtub
If you have a regular bathtub, there are quite a few steps that you can take to turn it into an excellent Jacuzzi.
Standard tubs can just be converted to feel like conventional hot tubs, but if you want to really go all the way and make it look like a Jacuzzi, here’s what you have to do.
Cover the Overflow Assembly
If you are serious about this, the first thing you need to do is buy a drain cover that goes over your overflow assembly. Most people don’t even know where the overflow assembly is located.
It’s just a small metal plate that is situated right under the faucet of your bathtub that is used for filling up the water. The overflow assembly, as the name suggests, is designed to allow the extra water to escape from the hot tub.
Simply put, it’s designed to prevent overflows. The problem is, the overflow assembly is also going to take out all of the hot water from your tub.
You can either make a drain cover for your assembly on your own, or you can hire someone to do it for you. You won’t be able to prevent the water from overflowing automatically, but just make sure that you only fill it to at least two inches from the top.
Remember, a considerable amount of water is going to be displaced when you jump into the hot tub, so you don’t want all of it sloshing around and falling over the sides.
However, the extra couple of inches are likely to make a huge difference. You will notice a considerable difference in the coverage and it will allow you to truly turn your tub into a spa.
Once you have the drain cover, you just need to fix it on the overflow assembly. Thankfully, most overflow drain covers don’t require you to go through a lot of hassle.
You simply have to place them on the assembly, and use those tiny cups that create suction to keep it in place. In some cases, you might find it difficult to make the cups stick.
You may want to read the instructions because it’s important that you slowly connect all of the suction cups and make them stick to the overflow assembly.
Once it is covered and a vacuum is created to provide suction, you don’t have to worry about the overflow drain cover popping off.
Get Some Submersible Lights
If you really want the true spa experience, you may want to invest in some high-quality submersible lights. Thankfully, these are incredibly inexpensive and you can easily buy them in packs from any online store.
The cost is generally under $30 for a large pack that contains a bunch of LED lights. These lights come with suction cups or you can also use magnets to make them stick.
You have to understand that the less expensive options don’t really come with any contraption or device to hold them in place, so you may just want to let them sink to the bottom.
These LED lights are usually powered by batteries, and you can always use a remote that comes with the lights to give the place a bit of color.
Use a Jet Spa
This might come as a surprise to most people, but you can easily buy a portable jet spa that you can use to get the same feeling as you would in an actual Jacuzzi.
These jet spas usually cost between $50 and $150 depending on their quality and the range of features that they include. You may want to do a bit of research before you invest in a jet spa for your tub.
For instance, if you are expecting the same powerful jets that are added in a reputable hot tub brand like Jacuzzi, you are going to be sorely disappointed.
You can’t buy those because let’s face it, if you could, why would you ever want to buy a Jacuzzi in the first place?
Instead, what you can find are jets that are going to smoothly displace the water and then release a bunch of bubbles that are going to give a smooth feel. These jets are usually attached to the sides of the bath using suction cups as well.
There are several choices available to you; you can buy the more expensive ones that cost a significant amount of money, or you can invest in a less expensive one that simply moves the water.
You will want to measure the length of the power cord as well before you decide to buy the jets. Remember, you will want to ensure that the power cord can be plugged seamlessly into the socket.
The jets are a great way to relieve the pain in your body, and you can easily redirect them to target different muscles of the body as well.
Get a Bath Mat
What will you do about the massage? An excellent option available to you is to get a bath mat. Electronic bath mats are a great investment, as they can be placed at the bottom of the tub.
They remain in place because they come with a host of suction cups that create a vacuum. There is an air hose as well as a pump that creates the movement.
They are slightly pricey, and can run you up to $200 depending on the model you choose. The higher-end models usually come with a powerful remote that allows you to choose the vibrations and select the kind of massage you want, as well as its duration.
Your experience with the bath mats is going to be greatly influenced by their ability to stick to the bottom of the tub.
For instance, if your bathtub has a textured bottom, it’s going to be a bit more difficult for you to keep the bath mat in place. However, if the bottom has a smooth texture, this shouldn’t be a problem. You can easily make it stick.
It may take a bit of time for you to understand how the suction works on the bathtub and how you have to attach the suction cups for maximum impact, but once you learn how to do it, the bath mat will stick firmly in place.
If you opt for an electric bubble bath instead of the jet ones, you are going to have a lot of fun.
Get Some Whirlpool Jets
Now, we get down to the brass tacks. To really get the same feel as you would with a Jacuzzi, you will have to install at least eight whirlpool jets.
Whirlpool jets are quite expensive, costing around $500 for a DIY kit. If you are handy and know your way around the plumbing fixtures in your bathroom, this shouldn’t be a problem.
You will have to drill a few holes in the side of your tub and then place the jets in. That’s not all, you will also have to fix a pump and an air regulator, all of which are going to require some precision work.
The Environment
Once your bathtub has been retrofitted and turned into a Jacuzzi, it’s time you pay attention to the environment as well. Essentially, this means that you have to create a relaxing environment if you really want to get the best feel of your bathtub.
You will want to add an aroma diffuser, and light up some candles. If you have a warm light lamp, you may want to put that in the bathroom as well. Create a relaxing atmosphere, jump in, and then use a bath bomb to really create a relaxing feel.
It’s the perfect tonic after a tiring day at work and will relax your body and mind! However, there are a few important considerations to take into account.
For instance, you have to understand that despite all the work, it’s still not going to be as powerful or as similar to the actual Jacuzzi. Yes, it’ll give you a similar feel, but when you actually sit in a Jacuzzi, the difference will be easy to notice.
Don’t expect that you’re getting the authentic experience. But, if you can’t afford a Jacuzzi, then knowing how to make a Jacuzzi in your bathtub is a good thing and the next best option.
It’s quite relaxing as well provided you know how to set up the ambiance accordingly to your liking before you jump in!
